The Serbian Minister said that there is no difference in the positions of Greece and Serbia on the most important issues for the stability and future of the Western Balkans.
He indicated that Serbia would continue to cooperate closely with all
international factors, so that peace and stability would not be brought into
question.
This is a complex moment in a political, diplomatic and economic sense, but we are convinced that the only sustainable solution for the future of the Western Balkans is one that leads to full membership of the EU, outlined the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Droutsas highlighted that Greece is ready to provide experience in all areas related to EU integration.
This is a significant and symbolic step as Greece deeply believes in the future of Serbia in the EU. We hope that everyone in Serbia knows that Greece will always be on the side of Serbia as an active partner and friend, remarked Droutsas.
He also said that the EU has not submitted a resolution on Kosovo to the UN.
Droutsas added that EU member states do not have a common position on the solution to the status of Kosovo, but noted that there are discussions on the issue.
He stressed that a consensus on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija can be achieved through dialogue and that the UN is a forum where the status of Kosovo should be discussed, in a move to establish dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and for the region to progress towards the EU and for the lives of the people in the region to improve.
Droutsas declared that the opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on Kosovo's independence "casts a shadow on some legal aspects".
Droutsas also pointed out that Brussels has noticed the maturity and responsibility with which the authorities in Serbia have approached the issue, and that part of his visit to Belgrade is in order to convey the views of EU officials with whom he met on 26 July, including EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Catherine Ashton.
Opinions presented in Brussels are not always united, but the Greek position is well-known and will not change. Brussels is, however, united about one thing, that is the future of the region in the EU as well as security and stability in the region, confirmed Droutsas.
He added that Serbia is a candidate for EU membership, which the EU is taking seriously, and therefore constant dialogue and contact between the two sides is completely natural and will continue on all issues.
