Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, paid a three-day visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, during which he met with several officials and spoke at a Business Forum also attended by Serbian businesspeople.
Macut met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty, President of the Senate Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razeq, President of the House of Representatives Hanafy El Gebaly, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark Tawadros II and other officials.
In his talks, the Prime Minister underlined the need for countries such as Serbia and Egypt, which pursue independent policies solely in the interest of their citizens, to forge closer ties and support each other. With that in mind, he stressed the importance of reaffirming the policy of non-alignment.
During the Business Forum, Macut highlighted the significant potential for enhancing business and economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, trade and tourism.
The discussions also paid special attention to the historical and spiritual ties between the Serbian and Egyptian peoples, with the view that culture and religion play a key role in promoting peace, understanding and tolerance among nations.
In meetings with Egypt’s top officials, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s position on the frozen recognition of the so-called Kosovo, as well as its support for Serbia on this issue in international forums, which Serbia, he stressed, deeply respects.
The Prime Minister concluded his first official overseas tour since taking office by visiting Saint Catherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai, one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world.
