Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, visited today a cultural and historical complex in Brankovina and the Lelić Monastery near Valjevo.

Macut emphasised that Brankovina is a place where Serbian statehood, education, literature and family tradition intertwine, stating that the legacy of the Nenadović family testifies to the time when the foundations of the modern Serbian state were laid, while the work of Desanka Maksimović reminds us that a people lasts as long as it manages to preserve its language, culture and spiritual values.

Macut recalled that this year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ljuba Nenadović, whose work still represents a symbol of connecting Serbia with the world.

He assessed that this is the path that Serbia should continue to follow – to preserve its identity, while at the same time building bridges of cooperation, understanding and friendship with other nations.

The Prime Minister then visited the Lelić Monastery, as well as the House of Saint Bishop Nicholas, emphasising that in that monastery one can feel the spiritual strength of a people who knew how to persevere even in the most difficult times.

The Prime Minister stated that the government will continue to build a modern, successful and dignified Serbia, relying on the knowledge, unity and values that have shaped our people, because by preserving history, culture and spirituality, the future of our country is also preserved.
