Investment in the distribution centre is worth €50 million. After the completion of the first phase at the end of 2014, the centre will span 70,000 square metres and will employ about 750 people.
Ljajic this occasion reminded that Delhaize is among the major investors in Serbia, having invested more than €1 billion in our country.
He said that the construction of the distribution centre shows that Serbia is an attractive investment destination, not only in trade but also in other industries.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the trade sector employs 350,000 workers, or one in five, while every third company engages in trade.
Ljajic expressed hope that this investment will encourage other foreign investors to come to Serbia.
Beckers said that the construction of a distribution centre is proof that Serbia is the cornerstone of Delhaize’s presence in Eastern Europe and stressed the great potential of the Serbian market, which is growing, developing and promising.
The Delhaize Group CEO announced the opening of 20 new stores in Serbia this year.
Delhaize Serbia operates through Maxi, Mini Maxi and Tempo supermarket stores, with a total network of more than 360 stores.
