Đedović Handanović met with Azerbaijani Minister of Finance Sahil Babayev, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabarov, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and President of Socar Rovshan Najaf.
She stated that it is planned to agree and formalise the basic provisions and commercial conditions for the construction of the gas power plant, as well as the deadlines for design and construction, in the coming months.
According to her assessment, the new gas-fired power plant will be significantly more efficient and have lower production costs compared to existing gas-fired capacities, ensuring stable electricity production with lower emissions.
Đedović Handanović stated that Niš was chosen as the location for the new power plant due to its direct reliance on the Serbia-Bulgaria interconnection, which has a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic metres per year, and its connection to the Balkan Stream gas pipeline.
The construction of the gas-fired power plant will also be an incentive for economic development in southern Serbia, through the involvement of domestic companies in the implementation of the project, as a new source of electricity for industry, but also as a source of thermal energy for Niš, she stated.
Gas deliveries from Azerbaijan have increased twice since we began cooperation three years ago, and last year they were around two million cubic meters per day and make up the largest part of our trade exchange, Đedović Handanović specified.
