Construction key driver of Serbia’s development

Belgrade, 21 April 2026

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević opened today the 50th jubilee International Building Trade Fair, held under the slogan “Innovations Shaping the World”, emphasising the importance of this event for the development of the construction industry in Serbia.

Sofronijević stated that construction is one of the key pillars of the Serbian economy and undoubtedly one of the most important drivers of the country’s overall development.

She noted that the share of construction in GDP in 2025 stood at 4.7%, the value of completed works was 10.6% higher than in the same period a year earlier, while 6,055 construction permits were issued in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 9%.

The government continues a robust investment cycle through the implementation of major infrastructure projects, she noted, particularly emphasising the importance of the Expo 2027 project, which will contribute to the further development of infrastructure and economic growth, as well as the strengthening of Serbia’s international position.

This year’s International Building Trade Fair brings together more than 500 exhibitors from the country and abroad and professionals from over 30 countries, once again confirming Serbia’s position as an important meeting place for ideas, investments and modern technologies.
