Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović spoke today with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission, led by Annette Kyobe, about energy security and the situation in the oil, gas and electricity sectors.
Đedović Handanović emphasised that the world is once again facing an energy crisis, reduced oil production and disrupted supply chains and routes, but that the situation in Serbia is stable.
According to her, stability of oil derivatives supply has been maintained so far, the market situation is being carefully monitored and measures are being taken to ensure that the energy sector remains resilient to external shocks.
The Minister emphasised that the supply will not be jeopardised as long as the Oil Refinery in Pančevo is operating, stating that Serbia now has diesel stocks sufficient for 89 days of consumption, while production at the Refinery amounts to 330,000 tonnes per month, which is close to the maximum.
She emphasised that the goal of the state is to maintain uninterrupted supply, so that fuel prices do not increase like in other countries and that they remain at the level acceptable to citizens and so that oil companies operating in Serbia are not endangered.
According to her, the situation with gas supply is stable and investments in the construction of gas infrastructure are progressing.
It was highlighted at the meeting that the transformation of Elektroprivreda Srbije is progressing well and will be completed this year.
It was also noted that last year's regulatory changes enabled small companies to switch to guaranteed supply and thus reduce electricity costs, while at the same time, care for vulnerable households continues.
The meeting, which was part of the IMF Mission's visit, was attended by directors of energy companies and the IMF Resident Representative in Belgrade Lev Ratnovski.
