Minister of Economy and Regional Development Nebojsa Ciric said that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, signed today by representatives of the Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) and the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), will enable an advancement of cooperation in commerce, trade, industry and investment between the two states.

A statement by the Ministry says that the document was signed by SIEPA Director Bozidar Laganin and KOIMA President Jutae Lee.
Ciric explained that thanks to this document, over 100 South Korean companies will visit Serbia early in 2013 in order to establish cooperation with Serbian companies and offer export possibilities to South Korea.
The Minister noted that the South Korean market was hardly accessible for Serbian companies, adding that 80% of import in South Korea is carried out through KOIMA, which numbers 8,500 members.
SIEPA Director Bozidar Laganin stressed that through SIEPA’s cooperation with prospective investors and associations such as KOIMA, Serbian companies will be able to engage in direct talks with South Korean companies next year.
Laganin noted that although Serbia records a growth in export to South Korea, there is still room for increasing the Serbian export to this market.
Serbia is the first Western Balkan country with which South Korea has signed such a document, and the current practice has shown that whenever such a Memorandum was signed, an improvement in economic and trade cooperation followed.
Korean Ambassador to Serbia Kim Kwang-Keun was also present at the signing, the statement adds.
