The €25 million agreement covers six municipalities in southern Serbia - Leskovac, Vranje, Pirot, Aleksinac, Jagodina and Trstenik.
On behalf of these municipalities, the contracts were signed by their mayors and directors of utility companies for water supply and sewerage.
Ciric expressed his gratitude to Germany for a friendly and professional relationship, as well as on the cooperation which has lasted from 2001 and during which the government of this country, through various projects, provided support to Serbia in the amount of €1.2 billion.
Today we have signed the second Programme of assistance to water supply and sewerage systems in the medium-sized municipalities in Serbia, whose total value is €25 million. Of the total contract value, €17.5 million is a loan which Serbia managed to get under extremely favourable terms and the remaining €7.5 million is a grant of the German Development Bank, the Minister explained.
He said that this agreement will significantly contribute to the development of infrastructure and more balanced development of all parts of Serbia, which will provide better quality of life for people in these regions.
Ciric added that the 3rd and 4th programme are also in preparation, which will include eight additional municipalities for water supply and three additional municipalities for sewage system. The total value of these programmes will be around €90 million.
This programme, funded by the German government and the German Development Bank (KFW) currently includes a total of 13 municipalities and its implementation will start in June this year.
Minister-Counsellor for Political Affairs of the German embassy to Serbia Hans-Ulrich Sudbeck also attended the signing of the agreement.
