Speaking at a gathering occasion by the Aviation Day, Mrkonjic said that over the past three years the airport "Nikola Tesla" served more than 8 million passengers and that during this year's summer season 33 airlines flew from Belgrade.
The Minister underlined that “Nikola Tesla” airport is a profitable company without debts and that it has state-of-the-art devices for landing in fog.
At every moment there are 20 aircraft in the Serbian sky, and the Air Traffic Services Agency annually provides services for overflights of half a million of aircraft, which is 5% of the European traffic in 2011, Mrkonjic specified.
He said that the Air Traffic Services Agency of Serbia is the second in Europe in terms of security.
In last three years, Serbia’s airline “Jat Airways” transported 3 million passengers, of which half a million passengers in the first half of 2011 and it recorded a 19% growth.
Mrkonjic said that all institutions in the field of aviation in Serbia are in full compliance with European and world standards.
