Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Milos Milovanovic said today that he expects Serbia to achieve a $1.5 billion surplus in the foreign trade of agricultural and food products by the end of the year.
Milovanovic said that the foreign trade surplus of agricultural and food products from Serbia stood at 820 million dollars in the January-July period.
He pointed out that the leading products by value of exports are traditionally raspberries and sugar, and lately grains as well - wheat and corn.
One of the tasks of the Ministry together with the private sector and financial institutions is to include in the first five or ten items as many products as possible that have a higher level of processing, Milovanovic said.
It is necessary to encourage and foster the development of the food industry so that a greater part of the value of the product remains in Serbia before being exported.
