At a ceremony held at the White Palace, Jeremic underlined that without a strong economy there can be no successful state politics, adding that apart from securing legal regulations and political stability, the state must also play an active role of an economic diplomat, and not only a political one.
The state’s role in attracting investment, economic development and combating the consequences of the economic crisis is now more important than ever, he observed.
Vice President of the Board of Management of the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED) Goran Jovic said that each team will comprise an ambassador or a representative from an EU country or Israel, one successful businessman and one representative from the local self-government.
The role of ambassadors and businesspeople is to help these municipalities to make use of their advantages, show economic potential and get in touch with potential investors and business partners, Jovic explained.
The Bujanovac team includes Ambassador of Portugal Luis de Almeida Sampaio, President of the Executive Board of the Hypo Alpe Adria Bank Vladimir Cupic and Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Assembly of Bujanovac Stojanca Arsic.
Leskovac team is made up of Ambassador of Slovenia Franc But, Director of Ball Packaging David Banjai and Leskovac Mayor Slobodan Kocic.
The ambassadorial team for Pirot includes Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of Spain Pablo Gasos, Financial Director of VIP Mobile Roland Haidner and Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Assembly of Pirot Sreten Savov.
The Subotica team includes Israeli Ambassador Arthur Koll, CEO of Tigar company Jelena Petkovic and Mayor of Subotica Sasa Vucinic.
The ambassadorial team for Vranje is comprised of First Secretary of the Slovak Embassy in Belgrade Rastislav Kostilnik, Director of Integration Systems of Aseko Vladan Atanasijevic and Mayor of Vranje Miroljub Stojcic.
The project of ambassadorial initiative was organised by NALED in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, and the first five municipalities that received NALED’s certificates on favourable business environment are Bujanovac, Leskovac, Pirot, Subotica and Vranje.
This certificate serves as a guarantee to investors that the municipality provides all the necessary support and facilities for the effective implementation of investments and further development.
