Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic and Slovak Minister of Economy Juraj Miskov today in Bratislava signed a protocol envisaging enhancement of economic cooperation between the two countries in infrastructure, transport, energy, agriculture and other sectors, as well as an increase in the trade volume.
Following the signing of a protocol from the fourth session of the Serbian–Slovak mixed committee for economic cooperation, the Ministers stressed that the economies of the two countries will engage in new forms of cooperation through joint investment and other forms of collaboration.
Mrkonjic stressed that the Serbian delegation acquainted the committee with investment opportunities in Serbia, stressing that Serbia encourages foreign investors through subsidies, the creation of a good business environment and its qualified labour force.
He noted that the trade volume between Serbia and Slovakia can be increased to around €600 million annually, voicing his expectation that this level will be attained within a year.
Slovakia can benefit from cooperation with Serbia because of its inter-state agreements on free trade which Serbia signed with Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkey and CEFTA countries.
Miskov observed that the committee session was very successful and stressed that Slovakia will continue endorsing Serbia on its EU path.
The Serbian and Slovak economies have good conditions to further boost their cooperation and businesspeople should take advantage of that; that is why the mixed committee was formed in the first place.
The protocol signed at the session envisages the beginning of the construction of a major road network Aleksandrovac–Novi Pazar–Tutin in consortium with Slovak companies, a continuation of cooperation in the sale of organic food products and a conclusion of an inter-state agreement in road and combined transportation.
The potential to expand cooperation was presented by the Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) and its Slovak counterpart SARIO, and a meeting of businesspeople from the two countries also took place.
Mrkonjic visited Slovak Power Plants, whose representatives voiced their interest in cooperating with the Serbian energy sector.
