Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Goran Zivkov said today that once Serbia becomes EU candidate country Serbian farmers, will receive €66 million in aid from EU’s funds.
At the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, where a forum called “Aligning Serbian agriculture with the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the EU” was organised today, Zivkov said that the support will go directly to farmers and not through the Ministry of Agriculture.
He expressed expectation that Serbian agriculture will soon be able to use the funds and noted that an action plan needs to be drafted before that.
Serbia must create its own agriculture policy and not follow the examples of Croatia and some other countries that copied the EU model, as agriculture in the EU spends money while in Serbia this sector still generates funds.
