Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia Bratislav Gašić met today with Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Spain Margarita Robles Fernández to discuss defence cooperation and the political and security situation.
Gašić expressed his gratitude to the Spanish Defence Minister for her initiative to personally pay tribute to and posthumously decorate the late member of the Serbian Armed Forces, Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanović, who tragically lost his life while serving in the UNIFIL multinational operation in Lebanon.
The Minister emphasised that Serbia and Spain enjoy good and friendly relations, providing a solid foundation for the further development of overall bilateral cooperation.
According to him, defence cooperation has developed steadily and intensified in recent years, particularly through the joint engagement in the UNIFIL multinational operation in Lebanon, which represents the most significant form of cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries in the field.
Robles Fernández assessed that relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect, trust and many years of cooperation, particularly within the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
She added that Spain highly values the professionalism and dedication of members of the Serbian Armed Forces participating in international operations.
The Minister reaffirmed Spain’s position in support of the territorial sovereignty and integrity of Serbia with regard to the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
