Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic said today that the Ministry, acting by the right of supervision, request only work from courts and prosecutor's offices, which can be in no way interpreted as a pressure to their independence.
After talking for two hours with citizens on the phone, Stojkovic explained that judiciary organs are requested to work on the cases, while the Ministry does not interfere with decisions they make.
The Minister recalled that 38 decisions made by local courts are before the Court for Human Rights in Strasburg because of unreasonably long duration of the proceedings and that the compensations for the damage made by courts that prolong their cases will have to be paid by the state.
During today's talks with the Minister, most of the citizens complained of inefficient work of the judiciary, disrespect and slowness of courts, and corruption.
Stojkovic said that a lot has been done on suppressing corruption, but that there is still much work in the prosecutor's offices and the police.
