Opening a two-day international conference on innovations in e-management held at the Intercontinental hotel, Popovic explained that that project will be most efficiently used in public procurement, where great savings and transparency will be achieved.
According to Popovic, local self-governments, schools, hospitals and libraries should be interconnected in one system, but the precondition for the creation of a unique information network in Serbia is the development of wireless Internet.
At the same time, the Minister said that it would be very good to form a special ministry for information technologies and cited the Romanian example which has achieved excellent financial effects with such a move.
Popovic said that the Law on electronic signature came into force on July 1 this year, and that the government adopted the Strategy of development of information society in Serbia on October 5.
President of the Programme council of the conference Zoran Savic said that more than €100 billion is saved every year on public purchase in the EU countries owing to the introduction of e-management.
The meeting has been organised by the Serbian Association for computing, informatics, telecommunications and new media, with the support of competent ministries and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
