Kostunica met with Paracin municipal officials today after which he announced that a government commission for extraordinary situations, led by Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic, will be operational on the spot as of tomorrow.
He recalled that the government urgently approved 50 million dinars today in its session to provide help to municipalities most stricken by the blasts.
Accompanying the Prime Minister today in Paracin were Minister of Defence Zoran Stankovic, general-major Zdravko Ponos on behalf of head of Army General Staff, Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic, Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic and Director of the Security and Intelligence Agency Rade Bulatovic.
Ponos said that the blast in the military ammunition compound probably occurred due to technical reasons of gunpowder storing.
Ponos said that there are no indications or evidence that the security of the storage was endangered either from inside or outside. He also informed the public that one-third of 3,500 tons of stored ammunition exploded.
According to Ponos, expert teams of the Serbian Army will start collecting parts of exploded and unexploded ammunition whereas the Belgrade-Nis motorway will be closed for traffic by tomorrow.
