Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov said yesterday that only an economically feasible price of electricity, which can cover cost of production, transmission and distribution, can secure development in the energy sector in Serbia and allow the opening up of the electric energy market.
Opening the second regional meeting on electricity distribution held in Zlatibor, Naumov said that only a correct electricity pricing policy can encourage the development of the electricity market, while on the other hand the Serbian government should create social funds for socially disadvantaged groups who are not in the position to pay an economically feasible price for electricity.
He recalled that Serbian parliament ratified the agreement on the Energy Community of South East Europe which obliges Serbia to completely liberalise the electricity and gas energy markets by 2015.
Hundreds of experts from Serbia and neigbouring countries are taking part in the meeting on electricity distribution networks, which will last until October 20, and 107 papers will be presented and an exhibition of equipment and services in the area of electricity distribution will be held.
Within the framework of this meeting a sub-seminar on deregulation of the electricity industry in the region will also be held, as well as other round table discussions on perspectives in development of distribution networks and companies dealing in the distribution of electricity.
This expert conference has been organised by the Serbia and Montenegro committee of CIRED, the International Research centre on Environment and Development, in cooperation with the national committee of CIRED in Romania and Macedonia.
CIRED is the leading international organisation in the area of electricity distribution with its seat in Brussels, and consists of 30 member states. The aim of this organisation is to improve and develop distribution of electricity and present the best model of international standards in technology and management of electricity distribution.
