Director of the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic said that the process of interior reforms for Serbia’s EU accession has not stopped, despite the decision of EU Ministers not to resume negotiations with Serbia.

In a panel titled “Does Serbia Have a European Future”, Miscevic explained that the decision made yesterday in Luxemburg is not final and that it refers to the current situation with implementation of the Action Plan and assessment of Hague’s Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte.
She noted that the percentage of Serbian citizens favouring EU membership rose from 64% in December last year to 70% in September this year and pointed to the fact that the European Commission will give a positive assessment in a report due to be released on November 8 on economic criteria for EU membership.
For almost half a year, Serbia has not moved ahead with the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), but the process of interior reforms necessary for membership is undisturbed, Miscevic stated and warned of the discrepancy between “technical readiness” and political consensus to join the EU.
