The renovation cost around 6 million dinars. The justice ministry participated with 70% of the funds and the local self-government invested the remaining 30%.
Stojkovic said that thanks to the new department, one of the minority rights stated in the new Constitution will now be implemented, namely the one envisaging that the composition of authorities in a community reflects the ethnic composition of the community itself.
This means that if 90% of Slovaks live in Backi Petrovac, the same proportion should be seen in municipal organs, explained the Minister.
He said that the government plans to develop all regions of Serbia and while doing that pay attention to the structure of all state organs in mixed communities in which ethnic minorities constitute the majority of residents.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Backi Petrovac municipality Pavel Marcok and President of the Novi Sad District Court department Petar Mohan. They both voiced hopes that citizens and court employees will be content with the work of the newly-opened department.
The 200 square metre Department is on the top floor of the Backi Petrovac municipal building and comprises two courtrooms, judge cabinets and a waiting room for citizens.
After that Stojkovic also visited the renovated and reconstructed premises at the Backa Palanka District Court.
