Results of economic reforms in Serbia presented to Japanese business delegation

Serbian Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic said today that he is convinced that foreign investments which were over $3 billion this year will be even bigger during next year, and Japanese businesspeople will significantly contribute to that.

Following the investment conference at which results of economic reforms and investment opportunities in Serbia were presented to a Japanese business delegation, Dinkic said that Japanese businesspeople will visit several locations in Vojvodina and the peripheries of Belgrade during their three-day stay in Serbia, and it is expected that major new business deals will be made, leading to more employment.
He said that the Japanese are chiefly interested in Greenfield investments, adding that they enquired about the new Serbian plan, which offers subsidies from €2,000 to €10,000 for each new job created in a Greenfield project.
A growth rate of nearly 8% which has continued for the third year, reduced inflation, larger direct investments coming into the country, and a consistently improving business climate, are the facts which motivated such a major delegation from Japan to come to Serbia and ascertain the changes taking place here, stressed Dinkic.
Director of the Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) Jasna Matic explained that the delegation led by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), consists of Japanese government representatives and businessmen from different fields.
She stressed that the Japanese are interested in expanding cooperation with Serbia, because Serbian technical potential, educated manpower, low cost labour and utilities, and taxation are suitable for them.
