Vuksanovic said on the occasion that this establishment is one of 55 schools which were included in the first phase of the Programme of reform of secondary technical education, which is being implemented since 2003 and was initiated by the Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport and the EU.
The Minister stressed that some 80 graduates, who worked according to the new programme, found employment within three months of finishing education.
Director of the school Tomislav Djokic pointed to the fact that students will be able to learn the skill of baking by using professional equipment in their school. He said that this was due to funds provided by the EU, through the EAR, which secured bakery equipment worth €28,000.
According to Djokic, the school which has 1,450 students is cooperating well with enterprises where students do their practical work, and the mini bakery will allow them to learn skills in a better way.
Head of the European Commission's Department for Economy and Integration Esmeralda Hernandez-Aragones said that the goal of this programme is to provide conditions for young people to get employed and to be competitive on the labour market.
Head of the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) Mission to Serbia Daniel Giuglaris recalled that the EAR so far invested €1.35 million in Serbia while an additional €6.5 million should be invested in the second phase of the programme.
Before visiting the school of chemistry and food sciences, Vuksanovic visited ”Ivan Goran Kovacic” primary school where he promoted chess as an optional subject to pupils alongside Alisa Maric, renowned chess player,.
Sport in schools gives good results, the time has come for chess, Vuksanovic said and explained that it helps in the development of mind and character.
During the visit, Alisa Maric played simultaneous chess matches with pupils.
