Vuksanovic said that thanks to the introduction of English language in the first four grades of elementary schools, elementary school teachers can now teach this language, adding that he hopes that in a few years all elementary school teachers in Serbia will speak English fluently.
According to Vuksanovic, this will solve the 40-year old the problem of the lack of English language teachers and will have a social impact as well because teachers will get employment more easily if they have a good command of English.
Gowan said that the programme will enable teachers to have a better insight into methodology and voiced hope that cooperation between the British embassy and British Council with the Serbian education ministry will continue.
Rector of Belgrade University Dejan Popovic said that while learning a foreign language, a new international dimension will open for children and help them form a different view of the world, as well as give them a sense of belonging to the European community.
