Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Slobodan Lalovic said yesterday at an event marking the International Day of Older Persons that Serbia will essentially change its attitude towards older citizens.
Lalovic recalled that the Serbian government recently adopted the national aging action plan from 2006 to 2015, and one of its priorities is to change people's perception of this problem.
He said that a reform of the system of social care is underway, which also includes care for the elderly. He explained that €120 million will be set aside for social care in the upcoming period.
The observation of the International Day of Older Persons was held in the organisation of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy, the Serbian Red Cross and the Humanas network, which gathers 15 organisations dedicated to issues related to elderly persons.
