At a working breakfast with journalists, Milosavljevic said that the research, which the Ministry of Health launched on September 22, is conducted with the support of the World Bank and in cooperation with the Serbian Public Health Institute "Dr Milan Jovanovic-Batut" and the Strategic Marketing research agency.
He said that the first results will be made known by New Year, and that by March 2007 all results will be published and compared with the previous survey on public health carried out in 2000.
Chief researcher of the Serbian Public Health Institute Jasmina Grozdanov explained that similar surveys are regularly conducted in a great number of countries, most frequently every five years because that is the period in which differences can be perceived.
She explained that the households will be visited by professional teams of interviewers of the Strategic Marketing research agency, which will have one medical worker responsible for measuring height, weight and blood pressure.
Grozdanov added that specially designed questionnaires cover 11 areas - from the characteristics of the family and household, through one's own evaluation of their physical and mental health to the statements on the costs of health care and evaluation of the level of nutrition.
Executive Director of Strategic Marketing Dragisa Bjeloglav said that a sample of approximately 20,000 respondents is bigger than usual for public opinion surveys, which most often include 1,000 to 1,500 citizens.
Such a big sample was chosen in order to get a detailed insight into the health condition of citizens in Belgrade, Vojvodina and western, central, eastern and southeastern Serbia, and in order to perceive differences caused by socio-economic position, as well as leading health problems and availability of health care.
Bjeloglav called on citizens to cooperate with the teams of interviewers since all data will be confidential and used for research only.
