The theme of the meeting was a report which Serbia has to submit to the UN Committee against Torture and to the competent bodies of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The report deals with activities related to legislation, judiciary and enforcement of penalties carried out by the Ministry, which are in line with the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
Stojkovic informed his collocutors in detail about everything that the Ministry has done in the previous two years and a half and especially pointed to the Criminal Code which was positively rated in Europe, as well as to legal and other regulations and organisational measures which significantly improved the rights of convicts and the regime of sentence serving.
The Minister also mentioned an independent control of the system of enforcement of penalties that is carried out by an independent Serbian parliamentary commission, and the possibility of enabling international humanitarian and other organisations to have access to convicts.
The participants in the talks agreed that all Ministry activities show that progress has been made in the implementation of the Convention and the suppression of torture in Serbia.
