Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic visited municipal courts today in Topola and Arandjelovac, where he discussed with representatives of judicial bodies what needs to be done to reform the judiciary.
Stojkovic told a press conference that the Arandjelovac municipal court is somewhat more efficient than the Topola municipal court as there are fewer complaints about its work and the number of outdated cases decreased.
Although efficiency is still a weak spot of the Serbian judiciary, things are gradually looking up, Stojkovic said and presented the data showing that in last two years the number of resolved cases in regular courts increased by 20% and in commercial courts by 50%.
As for corruption in courts, the Minister said that progress has been made there as well, which is corroborated by the fact that criminal proceedings have been taken against 50 judges, lawyers and experts accused of corruption and accepting bribes.
