Director of the Serbian government's Office for Human and Minority Rights Petar Ladjevic received today, on the occasion of the Missing Persons Day, representatives of the Coordination of the Serbian associations of families of missing persons from the territory of the former Yugoslavia.
During the meeting, almost all problems related to the position and rights of the families of the missing were examined. The families pointed out that the greatest problems are slow localisation, and the identification of missing persons.
Representatives of these associations pointed to unequal treatment of missing persons of Serbian nationality in neighbouring countries and requested from the competent bodies of the Republic of Serbia to intensify their activities through bilateral contacts in order to resolve this painful problem as soon as possible.
At the meeting, an agreement was reached that the Office for Human and Minority Rights maintain regular contact with coordinators of the Serbian association of families of missing persons and offer them all kinds of assistance within the framework of its jurisdiction.
