Serbia ovecoming the crisis better than other countries in Europe

Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali talked today with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Jan Kees Martijn, about reform goals within the current "Policy Management Instrument" arrangement as well as the budget for 2021.

This is the fifth and last consideration of that arrangement, which will last until 16 October, and the meetings will be held via video link.

The officials assessed that a lot has been done when it comes to reform processes, as well as that in the previous months, Serbia has properly coped with the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Mali pointed out that he is proud that Serbia is one of the few countries in the world that has even mild economic growth in these months, while unemployment is at an all-time low in the second quarter of this year, amounting to 7.3 percent.

Martijn underlined that Serbia is better overcoming the crisis than other countries in Europe, and that it has responded to the crisis caused by the coronavirus in the right way, with a comprehensive economic package of measures.

When it comes to the budget for 2021, the interlocutors agreed that there is currently a lot of uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that it is important that it has a developmental character.

In line with that, Mali said that Serbia intends to continue with capital investments, which will additionally affect economic growth.
