The Japanese Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Ryuichi Tanabe today handed over medical equipment worth € 45,355 to representatives of the New Belgrade health centre. The medical equipment includes a scanner, a hematological apparatus, an ECG, a defibrillator, and various other medical equipment and furniture.

The head of the health centre, Radmila Trmcic, pointed out that work in the emergency room will improve due to the Japanese donation, since working conditions and those conditions needed for treating patients will be considerably enhanced.
Ambassador Tanabe expressed the hope that the use of the new equipment, donated by the Japanese government and the people of Japan to the New Belgrade health centre, will significantly improve the treatment of patients and save many lives.
He stated that the Japanese Embassy in Belgrade will continue to gather donations allocated to health institutions in Serbia.
Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic, expressing gratitude to this assistance, said that the Ministry of Health will also make efforts to provide donations for other health centres in Serbia, so that they are all equally equipped.
He recalled that the total amount of Japanese assistance to health care in Serbia-Montenegro, from 1998 to 2005, amounts to more than $14 million.
