Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic and US Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Michael Polt visited today Azanja-based processor of frozen fruit Atle, which exports its products to Western markets.
Parivodic recalled that this factory, thanks to US trade benefits just approved to Serbia-Montenegro, will be able to export raspberries to the US market free of customs duties, which used to be 11.2 percent.
He said that the US’s decision to grant trade preferences to Serbia-Montenegro is great news for Serbia because it will be able to export all the country’s finished goods and a large number of semi-finished products to the US free of import tariffs.
Parivodic expressed the hope that there will be more and more successful firms like Atle in Serbia and that they will export their products directly to foreign markets rather than through intermediaries who make money on these transactions.
Last year, Atle exported a total of 600 tonnes of blackberries and raspberries to Western Europe and the US and it has recently agreed deals with two more customers from the US and Canada.
