Milan Parivodic
Parivodic, who is on a visit to Geneva involving the accession talks, told the Serbian government’s official website that the first multilateral meeting of the working group on Serbia’s admission to the WTO has been scheduled for early October.
He said that the talks focused on what Serbia has to do to join the WTO, and added that he also met with Director of the Department of Accession to the WTO Arif Hussein, Belgian Ambassador to the UN and WTO in Geneva and Chairman of the working group concerning accession of Serbia to the WTO Francois Roux, EU Ambassador to the WTO Carl Trojan and Austrian Ambassador to the WTO Volfgang Petric.
Parivodic stressed that it is essential that the Serbian parliament approve a bill on foreign trade this month, adding that WTO representatives have welcomed Serbia’s efforts to join this organisation.
Parivodic said that if reforms continue, Serbia could become a WTO member by 2008.
