The Norwegian government’s aid is in the form of a donation and is unconditional. It is earmarked for a series of projects proposed by competent Serbian government ministries, selected through consultations of Belgrade and Oslo.
It will be used to develop agriculture, especially private cooperatives, improve the Serbian Ministry of Interior’s information system, develop the forest industry and economic incubators, revitalise the Danube-Tisa-Danube canal, support permanent development of the Sandzak region and municipal development of Cajetina, as well as strengthening the coordinating capacity of state bodies.
The Memorandum defines basic principles of cooperation between Serbia and Norway in the area of development. Aid is awarded in accordance with Norwegian laws related to aid to foreign countries, as well as Serbian laws and regulations.
Minister Parivodic emphasised that this is the fifth time Norway has given aid to this country and reminded that since October 2000, this Scandinavian country has given aid to Serbia in the form of donations, amounting to nearly €60 million.
Ambassador Hans Ola Urstad assessed that Serbia and Norway have developed very close ties and have established a good and functional system of cooperation.
