Belgrade, June 25, 2005 –Saint Vid's Days of Diaspora, organised by the Serbian Ministry for Diaspora and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce began today with a speech by Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina Grigorije, who conveyed the blessings of Serbian Patriarch Pavle to participants at the Belgrade Sava Centre.
Serbian Minister for Diaspora Vojislav Vukcevic said that such events are important in resolving many problems of Serbs living abroad, where Serbia can be of help.
He also expressed hopes that such events would not be held just once a year but rather on a monthly basis.
Vukcevic underlined that it is unacceptable for the citizenship tax to be € 500, and that upon request of the Ministry for Diaspora, the Serbian parliament would shortly lower it to € 60.
Vice-President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Velibor Covrovic, as well as Serbian diaspora business people also addressed the gathering.
The topics of today’s working portion of the gathering are the issue of citizenship and military service, social and all issues related to humanitarian and cultural cooperation with the Serbian diaspora.
