Pointing out that the election of new court presidents in the last five months has increased speed by 20 percent, Stojkovic said that there are still problems regarding the expertise of judges and efficiency of judicial bodies.
After talks with citizens as part of the Ministry of Justice action “Open Telephones”, the Minister told the press that there is still corruption in the judicial system, but that this negative social phenomenon, also present in other segments of the society, is not very wide-spread.
Citizens often equate corruption with lengthy court proceedings, and in a large number of cases the problem lies in the lack of expertise and laziness, Stojkovic emphasised.
He said that by supervising the work of courts in Serbia, the judiciary has restored the sense of responsibility and discipline. Stojkovic added that the personnel department of the Serbian Supreme Court has decided to dismiss the president of the Nis District Court due to inefficiency.
Parameters for appointing those in the judiciary should be integrity, expertise and dedication, Stojkovic said, noting that the practice of appointing people on a party basis should be eradicated.
Stojkovic talked today with 40 citizens, who mainly complained about lengthy trials, corruption and incompetence.
He reminded that citizens will in the future be able to call and present their problems related to the work of judicial bodies every last Saturday of the month.
