Assistant Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Radmila Bukumiric-Katic announced today at a seminar entitled “Development of a Common Adriatic Labour Market – Cross-Border Cooperation of Serbia and Italy” that a new social programme is being prepared for an increasing number of workers who are jobless because of accelerated privatisation, and are over 50 years of age.
She announced that a national employment action plan is being prepared, which should implement goals adopted by the National Employment Strategy.
As one of the more pressing problems, Bukumiric-Katic mentioned the 18 percent unemployment rate three times higher than in EU countries. She explained that the situation is especially critical regarding young people, as their employment rate is far below the European average of 40 percent at just 18.6 percent.
The seminar is a continuation of cooperation of Italian regional employment agencies and the Serbian Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy as part of a programme of inter-regional cooperation financed by the EU.
Its aim is to determine, through an exchange of experiences, the best approach for creating a common labour market, harmonising labour migration management and reducing overall unemployment in the Adriatic region.
The SVILMA and LEMIS projects which will be presented at the seminar, envisage the creation of a common information system for recognising and monitoring the supply and demand of the work force between the Balkan and Italian regions.
