Illicit drug trading poses great security threat

Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic said today that illicit drug trade represents a big security threat to countries of Southeast Europe and the region as a whole.

“We will put great efforts and employ all the resources of our society to confront this evil of the modern age, especially given that most of the victims of illegal drugs are young people with a future,” said Jocic at the opening of a two-day conference themed “Mechanisms for the Suppression and Prevention of International Illicit Trading in Precursors and Synthetic Drugs.”
The conference, organised by the Serbian Ministry of Interior and the OSCE Mission in Serbia-Montenegro, aims to develop measures to increase the exchange of operational information between countries in order to fight trans-national organised crime.
Around 40 experts from the countries in the region will exchange experiences in police activities in suppressing illicit trading and the prevention of drug abuse.
