Opening the fifth meeting of the Interstate Committee for Construction of the Constanta-Pancevo-Trieste oil pipeline, Labus said that this oil pipeline will give Serbia the security of supply and economic gain since Serbia will collect taxes for the passage of oil.
The Pan-European oil pipeline is the first major integration-oriented project in southeastern Europe and will be implemented through a partnership of the public and private sectors. The project was launched in September 2002 when Romania, Croatia and Serbia-Montenegro signed an agreement on the transport of oil and gas to Europe. Construction of the pipeline is expected to be completed by 2011 or 2012.
Representatives of delegations of the Interstate Committee member states said that the Pan-European oil pipeline will bring numerous energy and economic benefits to each country involved and will also strengthen overall regional cooperation.
In addition, the project will contribute to the improvement of the ecological situation, since the oil is currently being delivered to the Trieste port by sea and will in the future be transported by land, thus reducing the number of tankers on the Adriatic Sea.
At today's meeting, representatives of Slovenia and Italy participated for the first time.
