Ilic said that the government is fulfilling its promise to reconstruct all the flood-destroyed homes in central Banat.
“We have begun by repairing street infrastructure, and tomorrow we will start with the buildings themselves”, Ilic explained and added that construction works in Medja will begin in a few days. According to him, the Zrenjanin construction company will begin constructing interim housing facilities that will serve as collective centres. “We will also honour the wishes of citizens who want their houses rebuilt in the same location as the old ones”, the Minister said.
The Serbian government has secured funds for the beginning of works and will use additional loans so that the houses can be completed by the beginning of winter, Ilic said of the situation. He explained that loans are being used so as not to burden the budget and reiterated that residents will not have to pay for the houses.
According to Ilic, the plans have been completed for both general infrastructure and for the construction of the residential block, which will contain units that are 67, 80 and 110 square metres and will be given to residents according to the size of their original ones. All damaged street infrastructure will be made functional, and at the same time new infrastructure will be built in the village centre, Ilic said.
Serbian Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo, who visited the village of Jasa Tomic with Minister Ilic, pointed out that damages would be repaired during summer and autumn so that the residents will be able to move into their new homes by winter.
