Serbian Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Zoran Loncar said in Seoul, South Korea, today that a strong and efficient local government is the key element in every country’s stability and that for that reason all state bodies must recognise and value the significance of local government.
At the 6th Global Forum on Reinventing Government, Loncar will seek to emphasise that after the democratic changes, Serbia has passed laws on local government and local elections, which he said have created an essentially different environment for the functioning of towns and municipalities.
He recalled that the Serbian government has adopted a strategy for public administration reform with the aim of ensuring the democratisation of local governments.
Loncar is attending the Forum at the invitation of the UN Department of Public Administration and Development Management (UN/DPADM). The Forum began work on May 24 and will close on Friday, May 27. This is Serbia-Montenegro’s first participation in the Forum.
