Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic and Head of the Serbia-Montenegrin office of the German organisation for technical cooperation (GTZ) Marin Troyanov signed today a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of a project for the second stage of the modernisation of communal services between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005.
The project aims to enable further development of Serbian municipalities through the modernisation of communal infrastructure, sustainable development strategies, better utlisation of local capacities, as well as natural and economic resources.
The first stage of the project was focused on the improvement of the efficiency of communal firms, implementation of small investment projects, and the improvement of coordination capacities of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, which plays a key role in the organisation of the entire process.
The German side has agreed that the second stage should not only continue these activities but also expand them to include information exchange inside and outside Southeast Europe through a network of associations of local governments across the region.
