Stojkovic and Loncarevic informed EAR representatives about plans for the construction of a new high security prison for those accused or convicted of the most serious crimes relating to organised crime and war crimes. The project envisages setting up a videoconference network between the prison and the court so as to avoid the highly risky transportation of inmates from the prison to the court.
Head of the EAR Belgrade office Adriano Martins said that EAR will do everything in its power to secure the granting of funds to the Ministry of Justice for the construction of such a prison in Serbia.
Martins said that the European Union has so far invested €19 million in the modernisation of courts and education of judges in Serbia, and that EAR will continue to offer assistance to the Ministry of Justice for projects of Serbia's judiciary reform.
