Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and Swiss Chancellor for Economy Josef Deiss discussed today the issue of the Agreement on Investment Protection and the Agreement on Avoiding Double Taxation and they agreed that the signing of these documents represents a significant stimulus for economic cooperation between the two countries.
In today’s meeting, held during the EBRD’s annual meeting, Labus and Deiss agreed that trade between the two countries and the volume of Swiss investment in Serbia are at a relatively low level.
Labus presented investment opportunities in Serbia and he added that greenfield investments have proved to be the best for Serbia and for investors. Also, Labus pointed out that Serbia is preparing for talks with the EU, expected to begin in October, and the signing of a Stabilisation and Association Agreement in spring 2006.
Deiss stressed the readiness of Switzerland to keep supporting reform and European processes in Serbia as well as its joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and he announced the stepping up of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Deiss said that the massive Serb Diaspora in Switzerland could represent a strong link for strengthening economic cooperation.
