Mladjan Dinkic
Upon the closing of this round table meeting, Dinkic said that it has been a very useful event and he concluded that regional countries must communicate much better because the existing free trade agreements are not being fully implemented.
One of the major problems in the countries of the region is an insecure legal environment, said Dinkic. He added that participants in the meeting agreed to work together in order to resolve the problems standing in the way of a common European future.
Dinkic said that today’s round table also touched on various infrastructure investment projects, primarily in roads, railways and airports.
He expressed the conviction that the international community will provide substantial support to these projects given that a better infrastructure in this region is in everybody’s interest.
He said that the meeting was attended by the finance ministers of Austria, Bulgaria, Albania, and Slovenia and the prime ministers of Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Serbia-Montenegro as well as European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquin Almunia, EBRD President Jean Lemierre, and Southeast Europe Stability Pact Coordinator Erhard Busek.
Dinkic said he is also scheduled to meet with the Bulgarian Minister of Finance, the German Vice-Chancellor, and European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs to discuss opportunities for German investment in Serbia and the EU’s macro financial support to Serbia and access to pre-accession funds in the EU’s next budget cycle.
