The Serbian government’s working group in charge of implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals and representatives of NGOs said today that measures need to be taken to eradicate poverty, reduce child mortality and combat diseases.
The government adopted the working group’s document on Millennium Development Goals due to be implemented by 2015.
Serbian Deputy Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Vesna Piperski-Tucakov said that child mortality in Serbia is three times higher than in Europe. According to her, there are 10.6 percent poor population living in Serbia.
Serbia signed the Millenium Declaration in 2000 with the remaining 209 countries signatories.
