Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus said at today's meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos that the Serbian government wants to speed up the process of European integration, reduce the level of non-commercial risk in order to increase the level of foreign investment, maintain macroeconomic stability and speed up privatisation and structural changes in the state.
Labus and Moratinos talked about economic and political cooperation of the two countries and the process of European integration and agreed that relations between Serbia and Spain are very good. The two officials pointed to the need for further improvement of economic ties, especially in the field of tourism, energy and infrastructure. With the aim of informing Spanish investors about the advantages of investing in Serbia, it was also agreed to hold business forums.
Moratinos welcomed the Serbian government's progress on the path towards the EU and stressed that it is very important that the state union of Serbia-Montenegro keep the pace of reforms that led to the positive assessment of the Feasibility Study. He said that the Spanish government is ready to offer full support and assistance to Serbia-Montenegro in the upcoming negotiations on the conclusion of the agreement on stabilisation and association.
Labus stressed that Serbia can become an EU member by 2012, specifying that while it is an optimistic task, the Serbian government is ready and capable of achieving it.
