Serbian business community ready to help people in flooded areas

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with representatives of Serbian companies with the aim of providing aid to the population of flooded areas in the Srednji Banat district.
The businesspeople pledged to help the affected population not only financially but also through donations of construction materials, clothing, food, and equipment needed to normalise the life in these areas.
The meeting gathered more than 70 businesspeople, as well as the chairman and members of the Serbian government’s crisis response committee – Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic, Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo, and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management Ivana Dulic-Markovic.
Kostunica and the ministers briefed the businesspeople on initial estimates of the damage in the Srednji Banat district as well as problems facing the population in the municipalities of Secanj, Plandiste, and Zitiste.
The businesspeople expressed readiness to help the affected population and the funds will be paid to the crisis response committee’s account. The rest of the aid will be distributed through established aid distribution centres.
Decision on the use of funds will be made by the Serbian government, the Vojvodina executive council, and authorities of the affected municipalities.
