Dragoslav Petrovic, the Vice President of the Serbian government's crisis centre for sanation of consequences of floods, announced that Serbia-Montenegro has committed to opening the dam in Batos, thus enabling water to flow from the flooded areas.
The Protocol envisages the preparation of a joint expert analysis on everything that happened on the eve of the floods and the activities that have been taken since then, as well as a joint recommendation for the final sanation of consequences of the floods in Romania and Serbia-Montenegro, Petrovic explained. He added that according to final estimates, around 5,000 hectares of land in the municipalities of Secanj, Zitiste and Plandiste have been flooded.
Petrovic said that the mixed hydrotechnical commission agreed today to propose to the governments of both countries the immediate preparation of an interstate bilateral agreement on joint defence from floods and other natural disasters.
