Vuksanovic reminded the participants in the conference that in the Serbian education system, the English language is an obligatory subject taught from the first grade of elementary school, and that the Ministry of Education launched a project of bilingual teaching in one elementary and one secondary school in Belgrade.
The Ministry also launched an initiative for the advanced training of teachers and students abroad.
British Council Director Chris Gibson said that this institution wants to support the advanced training of teachers who work with children through its programmes realised in association with the Serbian Ministry of Education.
The conference has gathered more than 450 teachers of English and more than 60 lecturers from 15 countries who will over the next three days examine current topics in the teaching of English, the increasing importance of business English in the world marketplace, advanced training of teachers, teaching of children from 7 to 12 years of age, and other topics relevant to the conference.
